Substance information
Finalsan® Plus is a non-selective contact herbicide. Finalsan® Plus contains two active substances. The main active is pelargonic acid. Pelargonie acid, also referred to as nonanoic acid, is a fatty acid. The pelargonic acid penetrates the waxy layer (cuticle) of the leaves and destroys the cell membranes of the plant's epidermal cells. This causes a rapid release of cell contents, so that the plants quickly wither.
The second active ingredient is the growth regulator maleic hydrazide. Maleic hydrazide is absorbed by the plants and transported to the growing points at the roots and shoots, where it prevents cell division and delays new growth for weeks.
Spectrum of activity
Finalsan® Plus works against all mono- and dicotyledonous weeds such as, dandelion, plantain species, grasses, stinging nettles and thistles. Finalsan® Plus will also quickly cause ground elder and common horsetail to die. Finalsan® Plus also be used to fight mosses and algae. Many species of moss and algae can be sustainably combated with Finalsan® Plus.
Effectiveness
Weeds that have been treated with Finalsan® Plus will turn brown after a few hours already.

Application
Thorough soaking of the weeds
Finalsan® Plus is applied by spraying. Please ensure that the weeds are thoroughly soaked. The effect is optimal if the weeds are ca. 5 - 10 cm tall. The weeds should be dry for the spraying.
Finalsan® Plus works in a broad range of temperatures. Even in cooler temperatures (5 - 10 °C), a marked discolouration of the weeds will be noticeable after 24 hrs.
Repeat treatment:
Repeating the treatment after 5 to 8 weeks is recommended for root-spreading weeds.
Plant response
Finalsan® Plus is a total herbicide that kills off all green plant parts it is applied to. Woody parts of the plant are not damaged, so that Finalsan® Plus can be applied underneath trees and bushes without problems. Not suitable for fighting weeds and moss in lawn areas.
Material compatibility
Finalsan® Plus is highly compatible with materials. In isolated cases, darker materials may exhibit whitish deposits after the application, but these will quickly disappear again after rainfalls. Avoid contact with synthetic resin panels, copper- or zinc-containing surfaces. Contact with these materials may lead to longer-term discolouration. Test the compatibility with other sensitive materials first at a concealed place.
Subsequent use of treated areas
Areas that have been treated with Finalsan® Plus should not be worked on for a day to let the product develop its full effect. Planting can continue two days after the application of the product. Sowing can be started again after 14 days.
Uncultivated land/Areas requiring approval/Common areas
Finalsan® Plus is grouped with plant protection products that are suitable for areas intended for the general public in the list as per section 17 of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection (BVL) in Germany. This group includes products which may be used on traffic routes, squares, in parks and cemeteries, for example. Please see the BVL (Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety) website for the latest details.
